Suggestion to add gravestone question to photo request pageAgain great site - with great mission/objectives. I just requested a photo and noticed the comment - that lots of spammers send messages through that page. Why not add a creative gravestone question - similar to what has been added to this comments/feedback page ? Thanks and regards, Jaime

EYLESRAF ServiceMy uncle, George Lawrence Eyles, was killed when The Bristol Beaufort Mk 1 he was navigating plunged into the estuary of the River Taw as it approached RAF Chivenor on the night of December 7th 1941. He died along with the pilot and wireless operator but the rear gunner survived. It is almost certain that a catastrophic failure of the aircraft occurred, most likely a jamming of a wing tab making the aircraft uncontrollable. An eye witness saw the aircraft approach and dip one wing violently before plunging nose first into the water. The Beaufort experienced many similar accidents, especially amongst those built in Australia for their airforce. Being wartime it was hushed up. I am writing a history of my mother's family so I am particularly grateful for this photograph of his headstone.

HARTLEYThanks CharlesI would just like to say how grateful I am for your providing these photos free of charge. With relatives from before the age of photography in my family tree, I am very interested in any information I can glean about them. It is surprising to me how good clear images of headstones help to flesh out the kind of people these ancestors were. Thank You! Also there were large families of Hartleys in the Wharfedale area of Otley, Guiseley, Adel etc. The headstone information also helps a lot to sort out who belonged to who.

MELLARDRE the gravestone of Sarah MellardThank you so much for the prompt reply and the image. As in most cases I guess this stone poses more questions for my research than providing answers. That's the fascination of studying family history. At the moment I am spending much of my spare time on this research but would be glad to be involved in adding photographs in the future. In the meantime I will use your resource to continue my work Regards, Bob Mellard
