PRESSEYWell doneWell done for the grave information you have already made available. I was not aware of your site till I saw the information on a Sussex Rootsweb e-mail. Though I have not yet benifited with my family names yet, I am looking forward to the time when I can. Meanwhile, again "Well done"

LEMARCHANDCorrecting data at St. John's, InstowIt was good to find photos of graves in this churchyard, with which my family was much associated in the 19th century. However, my family name gives rise to confusion because there are three 'branches' from the original founder, each branch spelling the surname differently, thus: Le Marchand: LeMarchand; Lemarchand. I thought you should know that I, too, have photographed these family graves at Instow and the surname in all cases reads - and should read - Lemarchand. This is the branch to which I belong. Incidentally our name in all branches is never spelt with a T - not always obvious from the gravestones after all these years. Incidentally, where the relationships and ages of family members are unknown on your website, would you like me to give you the actual details from my family tree? .... more

LEWISMany thanksMany thanks for this service which has added details to my family tree which I had not found elsewhere.

BOYCEInvaluable resourceThis resource is invaluable. Just think how it would be if we all did a little bit of the same. As I have sadly found through my research many headstones are being destroyed by the elements or mindless people, records of burials are not always easy to get to see if you live like i do 300 miles away from where our relations are buried, it is sad to think there may be no record of our relations in years to come.

TRITTONTRITTON BURIAL RECORDS/PHOTOSMany thanks for your quick response to my request, the photo was very helpful. It has however thrown up all sorts of questions, which I hope answers will be found.

OXLEYOXLEY PARKER / COMYNS AND MANY OTHERS - Thank you Just had to say what a marvellous site this is and what a terrific job you are doing. I spend a month in England each year to do some family sleuthing and also to find and photograph old family homes and graves - it is such an honour to be able to do so isn't it? I also clean the gravesites (very carefully and weed & trim etc and leave them a flower. I would be happy to offer you my photographs (but doubt you will want all 1,008 of them!) so will do some more reading of your site and see what I might be able to offer you. Marvelous service - more power to you, thanks so very much. Wendy Corbett Kelley (Sydney Aust)

PRESTONPreston @ThornerA very helpful service which enabled me to make a missing link in the family history

CHILVERSInvaluable ResourceThis wonderful resource deserves wider coverage and exposure for the quality and coverage that it offers to historians of all kinds, including family historian, to say nothing of the fact that it is preserving for future generations the much neglected and historically important contribution that monumental inscriptions make to the social and domestic story of our island.

LOWSLEYAnyone from Hull or Leicester? - LOWSLEY, MACDOUGAL, DARLINGI'm one of Charles's volunteers - I'd recommend it as a hobby, especially if like me you're new to an area. It's amazing how much you learn about local history from old churches. My problem is I live in Surrey, but most of my ancestors came from Hull, Rugby or Leicester and so far no-one has photographed any of their graves. I'm appealing for anyone who lives near cemeteries in any of these places to please donate some photographs to the resource. Also if you add the areas you are interested in to your messages it may encourage people who live in those areas to send in some photographs, and before long we could have covered the entire country!

Sutton SurreyHi everyone. I see we have no graves listed for the Sutton Surrey area - just wondered if any one has any relatives in Sutton or Banstead that I could look for a grave for them.

DOHERTYthanksIt was with incredible speed that I received the gravestone I requested. I am considering buying a digital camera to take part in this very worthwhile project.

MACKAYCorrection of a nameVery useful website. There is a spelling error in the name on ref 51913 Jeannie Cow Mackay - Cow should in fact be Gow .... more
