ROBSONWW1 information about Herbert John ROBSONBeing a volunteer at the National Archives in London I have accessed Captain Robson's WW1 service records and have seen a photograph of the 18th century book he found in France. Researchers might want to access information via the Discovery catalogue using reference WO 374/58654.

BRIGGSPhoto downloadThanks for the very useful image. John and Ann Briggs are the maternal great-great grandparents of my daughter-in-law. Ann married john as Ann Parnell (her step-father's surname) although her birth name was Ann Nurse. Her father's name is not given on her birth certificate. The image also confirmed the date of death of their son Wilfred Briggs. Also on the image is Wilfred's sister Mary who died aged 2 in 1885 (I think) but the image is not clear enough to make out the details. Can you help with this? Again, many thanks. Paul.

SETTLEGrave of Robert Settle and family membersReceived my link to the photograph of the gravestone very promptly. An excellent resource for all genealogists. Thank you.

ROBSONGenealogy in a nameAmazing how much genealogy a name and dates can open up. Robert Robson is not very unique but his wife Evelyn Winifred Boys Dickson tells her mothers surname 'Boys' and makes it easy to locate her with her parents John Henry Dickson and her mother Edith Mary Naomi Dickson. Their marriage confirmed the mother's maiden name 'Boys'. So very helpful! Thanks for this fantastic service.

NORMANNORMAN & SHAPTONThis wonderful resource has helped me untangle a few knots in my family tree where my ancestors had the same names recurring multiple times. Since I can't visit these cemeteries in person, I really appreciate this resource.

ENGLANDEngland - GunthorpeThank you so much for emailing the gravestone of James England. A few years ago we travelled up to St Mary's Church, Gunthorpe with a view to finding graves of the England family but we were unsuccessful so you can understand how pleased I am to find your site and an England grave. GOVANJohn George Govan gravestonewith a redirection of my last comment I am not certain whether my comment was lost...... anyhow I wanted to point out that your database identifies John George Govan and all other names on the gravestone as Covan. In looking at the gravestone I realize it is pretty difficult to distinguish between a G and C. By the way .......... thanks for doing this! It really helps tracking down Scottish ancestors when you live in Canada. Allen Maclure .... more

CLAYTONJohn Hockney Clayton - brother in law of second great uncle.Reassuring to see that on his gravestone John Hockney Clayton was shown with his full name, Clayton being his mother's maiden name. He was born two years before his parents married and so was given both parent's surnames. A plain memorial but confirmation at least of his full name and date of death. Many thanks Anne Harrison nee Harvey.
