DUNDEE-HOOPERupdateStewart Briscoe Dundee-Hooper was born 18 Sept 1893 in Torquay South Devon. His father was Harry Dundee-Hooper a solicitor in Torquay. His mother was Agnes Maria Stewart. It was a tragic accident that led to his death at the age of 22 on 15 Aug 1916 on Submarine E4 when she collided with her sister ship Sub E41. Both ships sank and there were 14 survivors, all from Sub E41. Both ships were salvaged, repaired and put back into service.

LEWISThanksThanks for the photo. I am researching Edward and Sarah Lewis, who were both convicts in Tasmania in 1840s-1850s. They actually had a child in Launceston in 1857, but the family subsequently went to NSW. In other family trees involving Edward Lewis I have seen confusion between families. The photo was helpful so I can map out what is my family and what is not.

NORLEYThank youMr Charles Sales......a grateful thank you ...I would never have been able to access this information on my own behalf...time and distance make it quite impossible. It is an invaluable service to those of us who care about our family histories.

MEADOWSclarityWhilst I appreciate the service offered and the work done by the volunteers I have found that most of the images I have requested have, in the main, been generally indecipherable and of little use as a record. The temporary removal of a vase of flowers obliterating text or the angle at which the photo was taken would make all the difference

BAILLIEFamily HistoryJust so pleased to find my grandparents grave on your site ( they are buried together). I live in Australia and came here when I was 3 so don't remember my Grandfather. I had never seen this headstone before but when I told my Mum I had found her parents headstone she told me she had never seen it either. She had gone looking for it while in Scotland years ago but never found it. She has just turned 80 and to now show her this, well it makes me sad and happy at the same time. Thanks for providing this service in helping all the people out there put the pieces of their family puzzle together. Regards Myra

Thank you so much for the information, iThank you so much for the information, it has been very helpful. My relation has now begun to know a little of his father and is to visit the cemetery soon. I wish all Scottish records were as obtainable. Out of interest, we have been told that records for Comely Bank Cemetery Edinburgh were lost in a fire. Do you know of any group that may have this information? We would like to place a headstone but do not have details of all those who occupy the plot. Incidentally, I have tried three times to post a comment but each has been rejected with no links or however long the message. If this is happening often perhaps people are unable to show how grateful they are, which is a shame. Many thanks

WILLCOCKSAmazingly Helpful through this site I have found the grave of my great great great grandparents which is amazing, but the most amazing thing is to have found my 83 year old mum had an uncle who died aged 21 in 1915 in Flanders who she never even knew existed. She is thrilled that this man who gave his life for our country is now known about by family members and is named on the Totnes war memorial. Our grateful thanks

Just to say THANK YOU Dear Charles, Thank you for your email regarding the new page. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank yourself, and the many others, who have worked, without payment, to put together this amazing site. Now, in our retirement years, we hope to be able to contribute more to the site, enabling some repayment for the valuable information which we have been able to retrieve here, without the need for trekking around graveyards. Kind Regards, Cheryl Sanderson.

ERICSONDISTRESSING ERRORSir I have been looking at the entry of my late father in law August Ericson. I am shocked and disgusted that you seem to have listed that his widow and his children are all related to someone called Hugh Denbigh Hannam. see this link. The family have no idea who this Hugh Denbigh Hannam is, and indeed this erroneous entry has caused a vast amount of distress for the family. I wish you to rectify this mistake at ONCE I would also like to know how you intend to compensate the family for this distressing error. Indeed if you can get your facts and entries correct I seriously wonder about your qualifications and qualities to host such a sensitive web site. .... more

FOWLIEThank you for the photographIt was wonderful to see a photo of my grandfather's grave. I was taken to see it as a child with my parents and grandmother. However on the original information there appeared to be other relatives on the gravestone who I was not familiar with but were not on the actual gravestone itself which is a bit of a mystery.

BLACKWELLEurekaVery many thanks to Charles and his website. I was able to track down a family member who had died in South Africa and also to discover some information unknown to me. So it has been invaluable. I passed this on to a relative who will now be visiting the headstone and making arrangements for it to be cleaned. It's an amazing free resource for which Charles deserves great praise and thanks.
