TOMLINTOMLIN and GARDINERMany thanks for sending me the image of the gravestone of Gibbon GARDINER, his wife and 2 daughters. I believe the gravestone does actually say Mary Elizabeth 'TOMLIN'. This lady was my ancestor and was born Mary Elizabeth GARDINER. Although the gravestone is recorded as being at St Mary's RC Church, the burials were at St Mary's Chatham which was the parish church and therefore Church of England.

WATTSBournemouth CoverageI am trying to trace the burial of my g-g-g grandfather, William Frederick Watts - death registered 1912, Christchurch, Hampshire (born 1848, Clapham, Surrey). Do you have any photographs for this area, or more specifically the parish of Christchurch, near Bournemouth? If so, would you be able to look up whether you have a grave of William Frederick Watts/ William Watts in your photos? Thanks very much! Alice

TURNERHELEN TURNERHi I hope someone can help with my request. I am looking to see if i can get a photograph of my mum's gravesite. Her name is Helen Turner and she is buried in Loaninghill cemetery in Uphall, west Lothian, Scotland. I do not have a grave number, but her grave can be located by walking into the front gate and following the path to your right. Walk around until you are at the top of the cemetery, my mum's grave is located on the left hand side. She was 49 years old and passed away in december 1993. Her grave has a garden ornament of a st.bernard dog placed on it. I really do hope someone can help, it would mean a great deal to me, as i now live overseas and am unable to visit in person. Many Thanks. .... more

TAMPINGrateful thanksThis is a much-needed resource, and a joy to use. I have always felt that, at the very least, our family history research should give us details of the last resting place of each of our family members; this is a mighty help in achieving that.

SCOTTScotts from Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland - Thank you!My name is Alexander Andrew Ronaldson Scott and I'm a direct descendant of Thomas Scott and his wife Janet Johnstone/Scott from Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland and other Scott kin of the Glasgow / Lanarkshire and Blantrye area. Thomas lived most of his life in Stonehouse, a village of mostly hand loom weavers of the period around 1800. Thomas is mentioned in Robert Naismith’s book: Stonehouse: Historical and Traditional 1885. Thomas Scott and Janet Johnstone are buried in the old kirkyard in Stonehouse and I shall soon make a pilgrimage there to rededicate the family headstone. I have been researching very passionately since 2001; working to publish a book using over 200 historical documents to back up what used to be only, with little exception, family tradition. A quick rundown on my Scott side looks like this: 1. Thomas Scott, carpenter of Bellshill (born approximately 1745) 2. Thomas Scott (Thomas of Bellshill’s son) married Janet Johnstone (they had 8 children)Thomas Jr, Marion Scott/Shearer, William Scott, John Scott, Janet Scott, Margaret Scott/Naismith, Janet Elliot Scott and Andrew Scott. 3. Andrew Scott (married twice) First Marriage to Elizabeth Osborne/Scott in 1848. (they had 4 children. Thomas Scott, Agnes Scott/Brown, Mary Scott/McDonald, Janet Scott who died age 3. Andrew’s 2nd marriage was to Helen Ronaldson/Scott in 1862. (they had 2 children. Alexander Scott, and Janet Polson Scott who, too, died young at age 7). 4. Alexander Scott (Andrew’s son) married Mary McChesney/Scott in 1892. (they had 3 children and the entire family moved from Scotland to Canada and then into Michigan of the USA. The children were Andrew Scott, Alexander Scott jr, Helen “Nellie” Scott). 5. Andrew Scott (son of Alexander) married Alice Cock/Scott in 1923. Andrew is my paternal great grandfather. I hope this information is helpful for anyone looking for Scotts of Lanarkshire Scotland and is an aid to beginners for simple research tips in general. Google is amazing with patience and a little luck. I would like to note that my research would not have been possible without the care and preservation by past/present family members and new found friends of our family. Andrew’s brother and sister both made their own pilgrimage to Stonehouse in 1954 gathering what information they could without the use of modern technology/internet. Mr. John Young - Stonehouse historian, Heather Ibbotson of Ontario Canada, Reverend Andrew Jamieson Scott-Branagan of Australia, Scotlandspeople.gov.uk for the use of their endless catalogs of Scottish historical documents, and of course my own Mother and Father who have encouraged and aided in my studies. Mom's side = Setla, Dashkevicz, Bochnia, Scioma. Dad's side = Chiefly Scott. But also includes Van Wagoner, Gierman, Lang, Kelleghan, Cock, McChesney, Johnstone, Osborne, Ronaldson, Naismith, Shearer, Polson, Thomson, Walker, Jamieson, Branagan, Pionk, Tillman, Kessel, Brown, Caldwell, Johnston, and McDonald. I can go on and on. After all, “our ancestors had minds much less confused than ours." Yours aye, -Alexander Scott

HANSELLHansell/Harrison/Gill headstone.- Linthorpe, Yorkshire, EnglandI stumbled across this site with the help of Google - as yet I've not yet had chance to explore the site in depth but found details of where my ancester Sarah Patience Hansell (nee Harrison) is buried. Sadly, as far as I can see the headstone does not include her name or that of her daughter Ann Gill. I will now investigate a possible Bellamy family connection. I truly appreciate the time and effort put into this website and praise the volunteers for bringing this resource right into our homes. Thank you.

HARE-GILLElizabeth Hare-GillThe entry for Elizabeth Hare-Gill contains the following note. Elizabeth Nee Garth born in Thornthwaite Cum Padside...Daughter of John Garth and Susannah Skaife.John Garth was a farmer. I think that Elizabeth Garth was actually the daughter of John Garth's first wife, Dinah Holmes. They married in 1874 and Dinah died in 1880. Dinah was the daughter of William Hilmes and Susanna Lister of Timble Great.

DOWSONThank you very much Charles Thank you very much indeed Charles for sending me the image of my maternal Great great Grandparents Margaret and Robert Dowson's headstone and the surprise added image you sent of their youngest son William Dowson birth year 1885 and his wife Annie(nee Showler)birth year 1884, I have also since discovered William and Annie's baby son William birth year 1921 was also burried there on 27 January 1922 he was age 10 months, he died 24 January. Annie was in the very early stages of pregnancy when her husband William died, I found this so sad that she lost both her loved ones in such a short time of each other. Also Margaret Dowson's birth year was 1854 and Robert Dowson birth year was 1853 he died May 15th 1943 aged 90 years, and not 1947 as stated, As I have side before this is a fantastic useful & very resourceful service that you have so kindly provided along with your team of volunteers it's a brilliant website. It has been a great help to me as I live in France and am not able to visit the cemetery myself. I regularly visit your website now as I am still researching the many branches of my family and I am always hopeful of finding images of my families members monuments. Thank you once again and my thanks for images you have already provided. (Please accept my sincere apologies for getting you name wrong in a previous comment I put on your website) With Kind Regards Cindy Davies

HOBSONSt Michael and All Angels\' Church, HeadingleyI was hoping to find photos of gravestones for Faith Hobson, dau of Joseph of Woodhouse and Elizabeth Hobson (nee Wright), wife of Joseph of Woodhouse Lane. These are mentioned on the website for yorkshirecdbooks for Headingley, but not on GPR website. The Hobsons were stonemasons so there should have been at least one stone but may be illegible as Joseph was buried in 1830 and Faith and Elizabeth a little before that. I am trying to find the birth date and place of Joseph Hobson. If anyone can help in any way I would be really grateful.Chris

MARDENMARDEN & GIBBSI was so amazed when I found this site. I am traveling to England in a couple of weeks and want to do my family research while I was there. I had no idea of where to start before I found this. Now I have more information and guess I will start with the cemeteries where they are interred. Please let me know if this is the best place to start because I have limited time. Thank you!
