1886791807first name on monumentRichard DUNKLEY lived most of his life in Blisworth, Northamptonshire. He was a major building contractor working for London - Birmingham Railway (subsequently LNWR) he also built a number of public buildings and high status residences in Northamptonshire. He married Lucy Carter in 1827 in Blisworth and they had 10 children although 4 died young. Lucy Dunkley died in 1871 aged 65 and is buried in Blisworth in a tomb of similar shape to Richard's at Alby. One of Richard's daughters, Elizabeth married Rev. Edwin Puckle, then curate of Blisworth but who subsequently became Rector of Alby.

Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

I am a member of Blisworth Heritage Society. Richard Dunkley spent most of his life in Blisworth, his wife is buried there and there is a memorial to him on her grave. Richard Dunkley was a major building contractor who did much work for London Birmingham railway (later LNWR). The Heritage Society is currently preparing to givefor a lecture on him and his work.
