Oliver Monks1922 Oliver Monks was a sea-going engineer in the employ of the Red Star Line. On the 18th April 1922, he died at the Hospital Stuyvenberg, Antwerp, Belgium. His home address was 2 Shemerstraat, Antwerp.
Lawrence Monks1917 Information from De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour (volume 5 page 125) MONKS, LAWRENCE, Gunner, No. 189445, Royal Horse and Royal Field Artillery, only s. of Oliver Monks, of 9, Beaufort Drive, Wallasey, co. Chester, Chief Engineer, S.S. Northland, Red Star Line, Antwerp, by his wife, Mary Ellen, dau. of Robert Hall; b. Leeds, 1 Jan. 1898; educ. Ashville College, Harrogate; St.Gabriel, Bouchout, and School of Commerce, Antwerp; intended entering the Liverpool University with the intention of specializing in chemistry; enlisted in the Royal Artillery 18 Dec. 1916; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from Feb. 1917, and was killed in action at Passchendaele 25 Oct. following. Buried at Canada Farm, Elverdinghe, north-west of Ypres. An officer wrote: 'He had not been long with us, but quite long enough to appreciate his worth. I had occasion only once to have a chat with him, and was very interested to learn of his ambition. I had marked him as a decided asset to the battery, as one who would soon get promotion.' Unm.
