William Phillips was born December 1813, christened on the 25th of that month. He was the son of John Phillips and Mary Phillips (nee Pope). He worked as a blacksmith in Westdown. He married Charity Lamerton of Weare Giffard 11th October 1836, and they had seven children, at least one of whom died in infancy. William died in 1890.
