Eldest son. Graduated in 1810; M.A. From Trinity College; Cambridge University. Entered Diplomatic Service; being attached to Madrid; Stockholm; Florence and finally; in 1816; to Berlin where he served until 1825. Married 3rd July 1817; in Berlin. They were the parents of 5 sons and 6 daughters. He succeeded as 17th Earl of Morton on 17th July 1827 on the death of his cousin the 16th Earl. Inherited the family sea of Dalmahoy House; to the west of Edinburgh. Died on 31st March at his London home.
