He was a lovely man. I knew him when I was a child. He used to visit my father who was was a Prison Governor and he always brought my brother and I giant bars of Cadbury's Milk Chocolate which he took out of the inside pocket of a huge overcoat. I think he once brought me a doll which was a huge gift. I remember that his eyesight began to fail and that he was I think diabetic. The last time I saw him was in Polmont when he was visiting my parents and of course my father at Polmont Young Offenders Institution. He lived in a flat in Edinburgh and I believe I was there once as a small child. The number on the door was 21 or 22 and I still look out for it if I pass that way. He made a huge impression on me.
