Youngest son killed in action in France 3rd battle of Ypres known as Passchendaele. George and Herbert died within about five weeks of each other in 1917 August/September. November 1918 the war ended, they nearly survived. George is on the memorial at Tyne Cot for those whose bodies were never found neither uncle is buried in Kirkstall. Herbert died of wounds and is buried along with over 9000 other British and Commonweath troops in Belgium.
