Lt.-Gen. Charles Cherry Minchin was born on 10 August 1829. He was the son of James Minchin and Susan Mary Cherry. He married Marcia Adeline Perceval , daughter of Westby Perceval and unknown Hawkshaw. He died on 2 December 1899 at age 70.in Bournemouth. Between 1847 and 1885 he served in India. He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in the service of the Madras Staff Corps
