Major General in the East India Society army. Joined the EIS army in 1796; he served at several sieges in Catchoura and the Doouab in 1803. Lost his right leg at the battle of Delhi against French forces. From 1804 he was Persian interpreter for court martials; and from 1806-1817 he was a member of the barrack and executive depts and an occasional judge or advocate. He was a member of the Asiatic Societies of Calcutta; London and Paris; and author of an article on Hindustani religion. He was the son of George Harriott and Ann (nee Staples) Harriott.
