Opened a drapery shop in Sevenoaks High Street that became the first department store in the town. Founder member of Sevenoaks & Westerham Bible Soc. Married twice, second wife Sarah Field nee Cooper, he appears to have had no children but two step-children. Wealthy man of property, he and Sarah both left wills that are held at The National Archives and available online. At least two of his Palmer nephews came into the business and built it further, adding banking and undertaking. I'm just at the start of research here and hope to discover a lot more. Buying a needlework memorial sampler has prompted the research. |
