Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

Hello My Father Ronald Gedge left Norfolk to go away to sea in the Merchant Navy when he was a young man. Whilst serving in the Russian convoys he met my Mother in Liverpool and they decided to settle down together on the Wirral which is close to Merseyside. He has now been dead for nearly 46 years and I never really talked to him about his Father. My Mother died in 1984 and all I can remember her saying was that she thought my Grand Father Cyril Gedge had been in the Royal Navy and might possibly have served as a Purser. The only other piece of relevant information was that my Grand Mother's name was Ellen. I believe my Father was born in Kings Lynn but that his family lived somewhere in the Acle area. Whilst the name Gedge is relatively unknown on the Wirral I now find that it is quite prolific in East Anglia and although Carol and I have searched many databases it is difficult to discover any facts with real accuracy. The records seem to show Cyril William Gedge to have been born in 1887 and that my Grand Mother Ellen was born the same year. Further research suggests my Grand Father died in 1953. Research into the Navy connection has proved fruitless for some time until today when his name might finally have come up in a data base called Roll Of Honour. However this only shows Cyril Gedge. Nevertheless it is this discovery which has brought me to you. My Father had 2 elder sisters and one younger but I do not know whether any of them are still living as following his death contact was lost. However it would be good to locate my grand parents' last resting place. Best wishes Gerard Gedge
