Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

My maternal grandfather was J S.Shepherd. The S stands for Sheringham. He was always known as ´Sherry´.He was born in Staten Island, New York, probably in the 1880/90 period. His family had emigated to to Canada from Norfolk approximately 1840. They were involved in the riverboat trade between Ottawa and Montreal from, maybe the 1860´s to the early 1900´s. They made a fortune and involved the family in merchant banking in Montreal. Sherry arrived in Ireland from Cambridge University about 1909. He became master of the Galway Hunt for some years and then in the 1920´s, master of the Duhallows in County Cork,Ireland. He also had an estate in County Galway. Lost all his money in the Wall Street crash, and died of alcoholism a few years later. Any information you can give me on the early family in Sheringham would be much appreciated. The original Shepherd who emigrated from Sheringham had 5 sons when he left Norfolk, and his wife died on the passage. He farmed his sons out to variuos families in Nova Scotia, and went to work in Montreal. Many years later, one of the sons, Rupert Ward Shepherd found him, and then began the story of the riverboats, the wealth, and ultimately the demise in Ireland less than a century later. Sherry was my mothers father. She died 5 years ago, aged 89, but could tell me little about the history. Any assistance you can give will be much appreciated. Thanks. Best Regards, Dermott.

A direct ancester of my mother emigrated from Sheringham in Norfolk to Canada approx 1840. I don't know his name. To the best of my knowledge he left with his wife and 5 children. His wife didn't survive the voyage. He farmed the children out in Nova Scotia and went to Montreal. Long story but my grandfather is Sheringham Sheperd, born Staten Island, New York in the late 1800s. Any information would be helpful.'Sherry' Shepherd died in Ireland approx 1932.

I would like to see the tribute or memorial quote near the bottom of the tombstone. Thank you for the service you provide. I have photos of ancestors graves at Hillington that I would be willing to share.
