William Ramsay Langstaff | 1857 | 68 | 1925 | The Langstaff family were closely associated with the foundation of Le Havre Football club the first rugby and football club in France founded by William's father and 15 British expatriates. It is considered the first modern football club in France. The club plays in the colours of Oxford and Cambridge due to the original British players. William Langstaff was president of the rugby section of the club from 1901-1925 and the first stadium in Le Havre was named in his honour. Alfred and Ellen met in New York City, New York in the mid 1850s, and then moved to France to help run Alfred's family's hotel business. This is where Nelly was born. Simon and Nelly were parents of 7 children. Simon died in 1913 while serving in the French Navy. |
