There are a total of six Portal tombs in this cemetery.

They were a distinguished noble family which included several generals; a governor of New France (Canada); and a governor of the Louvre. Jean Louis served in the French forces during the American War of Independence; and was attached to the staff of George Washington at the battle of Yorktown. He remained loyal to the Royalist forces during the revolutionary and Napoleonic periods.
Victoire de Rigaud1784701854 Victoire descended from the family of the engineer Riquet; duc de Caraman; who constructed the canal du Midi in the reign of Louis XIV. Another member of the same family is buried close by in this cemetery.

11DebrayPierre Charles Debray1814no image2731222691Pierre Debray was a local miller who owned the windmill now known as the Moulin de la Galette. In 1814; he was killed defending his mill from attack by the Cossacks stationed in Montmartre. According to one legend; was strung up on the sails of the windmill which is depicted on the grave. Other members of his family also died in the attack. Later members of the family founded the 'guingette' at the mill; which Renoir immortalised in his painting; and which became one of the favoured meeting places of the artistic community. He was also responsible for bringing Geneva under French control. He later became a member of the French parliament; and a supporter of the future Napoléon III.
