The cemetery is located on the farm Talana Hill which is a few miles out of the town of Dundee KwaZulu - Natal South Africa.
On the hill after which the farm is named one of the first battles of the Boer War (20 October 1899) was fought. During this battle the British commander Major General Sir William Penn Symons was killed with about 250 British soldiers. About 500 Boers were also killed.
About 15 of the British soldiers are buried in this cemetery in a common grave.
