John Sumner is probably the son of Robert Carey Sumner and Susannah Arden. Robert was headmaster of Harrow whose son John died before him and I am hoping tom find out more about him. His premature death resulted in his father fading into dean melancholia and then instructing his own executors to destroy all records of his own 41 years of life. I have a feeling that John joined the East India Company, but this is speculation. Perhaps the grave inscription will tell me a little more.
