Son of Thomas Ritson, and nephew of Francis and William Ritson owners of the Nautilus Steamship Co., George was the owner of Ritson & Son's Chemist, in Sunderland, from 1888 until his retirement in 1919. He took over the shop from his father, who had inherited it along with his brother John George Ritson, when their father died in 1857.
