Eleanor Cowan (nee Liddell), was the daughter of Henry James Liddell and Elizabeth Hislop Liddell. The Liddell's came from Rothbury in Northumberland. Henry James's father was John, a farmer and Overseer for the Duke of Northumberland. They lived at The Lee Farm, Rothbury. Henry left the farm to work in the Iron Works in Stockton-on-Tees. He was a Contractor at the iron Works.
