Born in Leyden in Holland to a French Hugenot family; Marron was the Protestant Chaplain to the Dutch Embassy in Paris from 1782. From 1791 until his death in 1832; he was the pastor of the first state-approved Protestant church in Paris; and then of the Oratoire du Louvre; still the most important French Protestant church. He was arrested twice during the revolution for clandestine baptisms and marriages; and imprisoned once.
