Seymour was the illegitimate son of Francis Seymour-Conway; 2nd Marquess of Hertford. He was educated at Pemroke Coll Cambridge and in 1810 married Margaret Williams of Cromleech in Ireland. When his father died; he was forced to leave the Hertford family estates in Ireland and move to Brussels. His sons; born in Ireland; were Frederick Seymour who became Governor of British Columbia; and Gen.Sir Francis Seymour Bt.
