George John LeMar spent five years at Kent College between 1927 and 1932. He was born on 11 November 1915, the son of a fruit grower, Edward John LeMar and his wife, Dora Milton LeMar. In 1937, he took a seven year commission in the R.A.F. and served abroad in Egypt, South Africa, North Africa, Crete and Gibraltar, eventually reaching the rank of Flight Lieutenant with 252 Squadron. On 25 May 1941, he survived the ditching of his plane in the sea off Cornwall. In bad weather, George LeMar and two of his colleagues were rescued by a small coastal vessel and taken to Truro Hospital. However, he was killed in another accident a year-and-a-half later. His Liberator Bomber crashed near Lyneham in Wiltshire on 6 November 1942 and he lies buried in the local parish churchyard of St Michael and All Angels.
