Camon was educated at the élite Ecole Polyetchnique and rose to the rank of General in 1913. He was a tactician and administrative general; who taught in militairy academies and became an authority on the Napoleonic army. He was also possibly more admired abroad rather than in France. During WW1 he was head of the munitions supply chain.
