Bellonte was a French aviation pionneer; who began his career as a mechanic working on the engine of the Blériot 2 which made the first cross-Channel flight in 1909. in WW1 he served with the air force; and after the war rejoined the aircraft industry. In 1929 he partnered Dieudonné Costes (also buried in this cemetery) on the first Paris-China flight; and in 1930 they made the first transatlantic flight from Paris to New York.
