Richard was the son of John Perrott and his wife Christian (née Trist). He was a shoemaker in Bridgetown (a borough of Totnes but located in Berry Pomeroy parish) for many years. Richard married Mary Ann Matthews at St. Andrews, Plymouth, on June 29, 1802. The couple settled in Berry Pomeroy (Richard's home parish) and all of their children were baptized there. Mary Ann died of asthma on March 11, 1852 at age 70 and was buried at Berry Pomeroy on March 15 of that year. Her name does appear at the bottom of this headstone, but is apparently obscured my stains and lichen.
