Professor of machinery at UCL - inventor - chief of the patent office and founder of the Patent Office library and museum. Bennet Woodcroft is the paternal grandfather of the wife (Frances Mary Hammond) of my great uncle Charles Henry Cross. Frances Mary's father, Henry Woodcroft Hammond, was the illegitimate son of Bennet Woodcroft, as I have documented (on a family tree on Ancestry.com). Bennet Woodcroft also fathered a daughter, Eleanor Woodcraft Hammond, with the same mother, Matilda Hammond.
