Mary Martha Whiteoak was born on 25th October 1858 at Kirkgate, Knaresborough, to John Whiteoak, Coachman, and Mary Whiteoak, formerly Hardcastle. She appeared in the 1861 census as Mary M Whiteoack, but died of Bronchitis on 4th November 1863, aged 5. Her gravestone gives her surname as Whiteoake. By the next census the family had moved on to Boroughbridge, where her parents are buried as John and Mary Whiteoak.
