Kathleen, along with her sister Mildred and brother Evan survived a massacre in 1895 China when their parents Rev Robert and Louisa Stewart were serving as missionaries for CMS. Kathleen's brother Herbert 6 and sister Hilda 1 also died on that day along with their nurse and 7 young missionary ladies.
