She was the daughter of Captain Robert Lyons (1763-1818)of the 70th Regiment and Ann Porter (1779-1853). She was born on 23 Jan 1805 at Southampton, Hampshire and baptized on 2 Jul 1806 at Romsey.Her parents married on 11 Oct 1802 in Oxfordshire.She never married and lived with her mother until the latter's death in 1853. Her mother was the daughter of Laurence Porter Esq. of Chertsey, Surrey, a wealthy brewer and substantial property owner who left her a substantial legacy as did her brother, William Sutton Porter. Her mother's sister, Althea Porter married John Latham (1769-1882), the son of Dr John Latham (1740-1837), a member of the Royal Society.
