William Lister was baptized 11 Mar 1755 at Bolton Abbey, 2nd son of Thomas Lister of Barden Tower, yeoman; by his wife Jane nee Simpson. He was named in his father's will, 1775; and in that of his mother, dated 1802 and proved 1803 (then Jane Hardisty of Keighley) described as 'William Lister of Otley'.
