There is a portrait of William Adam in this monument which was designed by his son John in 1753 Robert regarded as the most outstanding exponent of Classical architecture in Britain is buried in Westminster Abbey. On the bicentenary of his death in 1992 a memorial tablet based on one of his own designs was placed in Greyfriars Kirk by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland.
