John Labbett was the son of John Labbett and Mary Jane Evans. He was born about 6th March 1853 in Braunton. His mother died 5th Feb 1855 and when his father came to australia in 1856/7 he was taken in by the Evans family. He married Ann Reed, the daughter of James Reed and Hannah Lerwill, in 1878 at Barnstaple. John was a mariner. John Labbett senior arrived in Australia in 1857.He had two more marriages and another 15 children.
