The follow note is stored against Henry Beavis record:

As explained by parenthetical use of commas on the memorial tablet, Henry Beavis was commander of the North Devon Regiment of Local Militia in which Captain Josiah Crane served as Adjutant but that has been misunderstood such that this memorial to Josiah Crane is misrepresented on some Wiki things as being that of Henry Beavis. Henry Beavis Sr was twice Mayor of Barnstaple in 1738 and 1751 and died in 1757. His son Col. Henry Beavis Jr (1736-1826) was a career army officer (and never Mayor of Barnstaple) and it was he, Col. Henry Beavis Jr, who in later life commanded the local militia. Henry Jr was a lifelong bachelor but is credited as having adopted a daughter, Elizabeth, who married Robert Newton Incledon at Pilton in 1797 and died in 1804. Elizabeth's birth identity seems to be uncertain, there being circumstantial evidence that she was Henry's natural daughter.
