Captured by Japanese while attempting to escape on 21 January 1942 after the Japanese air raids on Kavieng. Reportly drowned 1st July 1942 with the sinking of the Montevideo Maru (NAA A518 GR16/2/1 P22) but there is now doubt regarding this information given by the Japanese.
