Catherine was the daughter of Duncan Gibb, one of Liverpool's wealthiest -and self-made- shipowners. He was originally from Greenock, Scotland. The Gibbs' summer retreat is now a museum - The Grove Museum, Ramsey, Isle of Man. It is virtually unchanged since she grew up there.
