Following secretarial training Eleanor was instrumental in assisting her father in setting up Thomas F. Woodburn & Co the renowned specialist plasterwork & granolithic contractors in Edinburgh. She also became an established businesswoman in her own right with hairdressing salons in Edinburgh & Musselburgh. She served as a Director of her late husband's companies which were managed by her son Kenneth until her death in 1998 aged 89.
