Augusta Maria Murdoch was born in Madeira in 1802, daughter of Thomas Murdoch IV (1758-1846) and his wife Charlotte Leacock (1770-1843). Thomas was a merchant dealing in Madeira Wines. Their next born daughter, Caroline Lennox Murdoch, buried alongside her sister at St Dunstan's, was born in London in 1804. Their sister Louisa Murdoch (1795-1838) married the vicar of St Dunstan's, Revd. John Kirby (1786-1844) and they are laid to rest in the Kirby crypt beneath the church. Their son, Revd. Henry Thomas Murdoch Kirby was vicar of St Dunstan's at the time of his aunt's deaths in Brighton and had them buried in the churchyard at Mayfield.
