Sèze was a lawyer from Bordeaux who advised Marie Antoinette during the scandal of the diamond necklace. Louis XVI chose him as one of his lawyers for his trial in 1792. Sèze was subsequently arrested by the revolutionaries but released; and went on to be President of the Court of Appeal under King Louis XVIII and a member of the Académie Française.
