During the revolutionary wars; he served in the Pyrenees and Spain; and then commanded the artillery of the French armies of the Rhine; Mayence; the Danube; and Switzerland. In 1801 Napoléon appointed him as a senator; and raised him to the title of count in 1808. He remained loyal to the restored Bourbon kings during 'the Hundred Days'.
