James Godby was the son of Thomas Godby and Clementina Patrick. (They are buried at St Mary's Church, Holme, Norfolk). He was born in 1821 and christened 27 Jul 1821 at SS Peter and Paul Church, Shernborne, Norfolk. He married Mary Mott Seaman on 14 Sep 1845 at St Pater's Church, West Rudham. They had 2 children, Elizabeth Seaman(1837-1912) and Mary Ann Godby(1846-1917). He was a shepherd all his working life.
