Samuel Charles Evans was the son of Henry Thomas Evans, a watch and clockmaker in high St Godalming. According to the English Censuses, Henry Thomas Evans was born C1818, in Wolverhampton. He died in Godalming in 1910. Most of Henry's siblings were born in Liverpool, Lancashire. His father was Henry Evans, an ironmonger of 20 London Rd, Liverpool. Henry had moved from Liverpool to Clerkenwell, Middlesex by 1840. In the newspapers for mid July 1840, there are reports of an attack made on Henry by his brother-in-law, Richard Lewis.
