Peter was born in Norfolk, in February 1919, the eldest child of Alfred Stephen Jeffery, a school teacher (later an Anglican priest) and Barbara Clarke, a school teacher. He had three sisters, Kathleen Frances Barbara, born 5.10.1920, Margaret Eileen Mary (my mother), born 15.6.1922 and Sheila Mary born 1924. He was a pilot officer in the RAF Volunteer Reserve and was shot down by friendly fire a few days after his 22nd birthday. His sister, Sheila, is also buried at Lound. She died aged 19 of meningitis. Peter's mother an father are buried in Exmouth, Devon at St. John in the Wilderness, and Kathleen and Margaret's ashes were buried at the same plot.
