Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

My maternal great, great grandfather was Peter Patrick Cromartie 1787-1864, born and died in Bladen County NC. Peter's mother was Ruhamah Doane. His father was William Cromartie born 1731 in South Ronaldsay and died 1807 in Bladen County NC. William had a son, born 1765 in Bladen County NC also named William by a previous wife, name unknown, possibly Stewart. William, son of William left America around 1790 and we think returned to Scotland. I am researching all possible connections. I have transcription of Sept 11,1938 2 1/2 page letter from (Capt.)James Spence Cromarty of Diggings, Shapinsay, Orkney, Scotland to my Cromartie grandmother's spinster sister Elizabeth Janet Black(Aunt Bessie). Aunt Bessie died suddenly and unexpectedly Feb. 2, 1939. I will gladly send that transcription. I do not have nor have I seen the original letter. Thank you.
