Elizabeth Gunn
1934661868first name on monumentElizabeth (Lizzie) Gunn was born on 6 May 1868 in Sarclet, Wick to John Gunn, a fisherman, and Elizabeth Anderson. She was married twice: first to Patrick Campbell, a baker, on 27 Oct 1893 at Brown Place, Pulteney-town, Wick; and then to Kenneth Miller, a chemist and druggist, on 9 Sep 1903 at 6 Upper Dunbar Street, Pulteney-town, Wick. Her first child, Archibald, was born on 13 Nov 1887, and is listed as illegitimate in his birth record. No father is listed in the birth record, but the child is named Archibald Campbell Gunn. His birth comes almost six years before Lizzie marries Patrick Campbell. In the 1891 Scotland Census, Lizzie is living with her parents with her son, who is listed as Archibald Campbell. In the 1901 and 1911 censuses, he is listed as Archibald G. Campbell, and Archibald Campbell, respectively. Based upon the birth record and censuses, his father is very probably Patrick Campbell. Lizzie's second child, Elizabeth (also called Lizzie), was born on 29 Jul 1894. Her father is listed in the birth record as Patrick Campbell. The third child, Margaret Ann Steven Campbell (Maggie), was born on 1 Jul 1899. She is listed as illegitimate in the birth record. No father is listed, and there is a note indicating that Patrick Campbell died at a unspecified date in 1894. The surname for Maggie in the birth record is given as Campbell or Gunn. Strangely, Patrick did not die until 1940 (see the entry for Patrick Campbell for details). Lizzie's fourth child, Kenneth Miller, Jr., was borne to her second husband. Her second husband died in 1904, and their son passed away in 1906. Elizabeth Gunn died on 27 Oct 1934, at 28 Brown Place, Pulteney-town, Wick. The cause of death was auricular fibrillation and pulmonary infarction.
Patrick Campbell
husband of Elizabeth GunnPatrick Campbell was born on 21 Dec 1866, at Macleay Terrace in Wick. His parents were Archibald Campbell, a baker, and Johan Georgeson. He was also a baker. Records described in the entry for Elizabeth Gunn indicate that he died in 1894, but his death record disagrees. His death record indicates that he died on 19 Jan 1940 at Bignold Hospital in Wick. The record also states that he is the widower of Elizabeth Gunn, and his age (73 years) corresponds well with his year of birth. The causes of death are listed as adenoma of the prostate, pyelonephitis (kidney infection), uremia, and heart failure. The death record gives his usual residence as 28 Brown Place, Wick. His marriage to Elizabeth Gunn took place at Brown Place; his child, Elizabeth (Lizzie) was born at 28 Brown Place; a child, Margaret Ann Steven Campbell or Gunn (listed as illegitimate), born after his supposed death, is at 28 Brown Place; the 1901 census gives the address of his family (but not him) as 25 Brown Place; and his usual residence when he dies is 28 Brown Place. There is probably a very interesting story to explain his supposed death and reappearance.

Please note that all ages and dates of birth in red have been calculated and are probably not on the monument.

The calculated dates of birth should be treated with caution as in many cases it can be one year out.

The calculated dates of birth should also be treated with caution as the ages given on monuments are often inaccurate.

The names above are all the names that are listed on the grave monument. It is most likely that only the entries with dates and ages are interred in the grave.

Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

My relationship is pretty distant (Patrick Campbell is the first cousin of the husband of a niece of the husband of a second cousin twice removed), but I'm trying to find closer relationships with my closest Y-DNA matches whose ancestors come from this general area.
