Lauderdale Ramsay grave monument: legible names and details
full name | burial date | age | birth date | relationship | notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Lauderdale Ramsay | 1888 | 82 | 1806 | first name on monument | |
Elizabeth Bannerman Taylor nee Ramsay | 1877 | daughter of Lauderdale Ramsay | Elizabeth Bannerman Taylor was a daughter of James Horn Burnett, 1801-1876, and Lauderdale Burnett Ramsay, 1806-1888. She married George John Pitt Taylor on 2 February 1869, had one son and four daughters by him, and died on 23 February 1877. Given that her daughter Ernestine was born in 1877, it seems likely that her premature death was brought on by complications during childbirth. | ||
Sir Alexander Ramsay | father of Lauderdale Ramsay | Son of Thomas BURNETT, 1708-1783, and Catherine RAMSAY, 1728-1798, Sir Alexander Ramsay, 1st. Baronet of Balmain, was born Alexander BURNETT on 30 July 1757. He assumed the surname of RAMSAY after inheriting the baronetcy of Balmain from his mother's brother Alexander Ramsay-Irvine 13 May 1806. He died at 'Fasque', just outside Fettercairn on 17 May 1810. Strangely, instead of becoming the 7th. Baronet of Balmain as seemed logical, Alexander Ramsay became the 1st. Baronet of Balmain in what, presumably, was deemed to be a new incarnation of the Ramsay baronetcy after it had briefly become dormant. | |||
Sir James Horn Burnett | husband of Lauderdale Ramsay | James Horn BURNETT, 1801-1876, was a son of Robert Burnett, 1755-1837, and Margaret Dalrymple Elphinstone, 1765-1849. He and his second wife Lauderdale Burnett Ramsay were first cousins. He became the 10th. Baronet of Leys in 1856, went on to become Lord-Lieutenant of Kincardineshire in 1863, and died at Crathes Castle, where he was born, in 1876. | |||
Capt George John Pitt Taylor | son-in-law of Lauderdale Ramsay | Born in Tunbridge Wells, Kent in about 1834, George John Pitt Taylor was the son of William Stanhope Taylor, 1799-1869, and Sarah O'Brien, 1805-1859. |
