Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

My great-grandmother, Katherine Annie Chinnery-Haldane, was the daughter of William Henry Edward Napier. Unfortunately, my last meeting with her was in 1956, at which time I was only five years old and not very interested in asking about her father's career/ancestry etc. As it turns out, the latter's origins are something of a mystery. William Henry Edward's father, Duncan Campbell, served in Canada, but all attempts to discover the names of his parents have so far drawn a blank. Any input there would be greatly appreciated. I should add that my personal field of study is the history of the island of Java. Interest in my own forbears from the Napier line was rekindled upon discovering that Robert Napier of Magdala (apparently a relative) received his middle name "Cornelis" following the death of his father during the storming of the Franco-Dutch fort of Cornelis at Batavia in 1811. The link connecting Duncan Campbell Napier with Robert Cornelis, however, remains unclear to me.
