George Kenwrick
1938861852first name on monumentMy Great-Grandfather was William Kenwrick known as 'Will'. Born in Hartlebury 9 June 1823 - 18 February 1907 (baptised 31 October 1824). He was a butcher, farmer and cattle dealer and I believe farmed at Astley Towne nr Stourport-on-Severn. A Worcestershire Directory dated 1884 shows him as a Farmer, Wood Green. The Directory shows his son William as a Butcher in High Street Stourport-on-Severn. He had three wives: Ann Clarke Rhoda Cooper (born Walsall c 1828/9 -baptised 8 4 1829 - died in childbirth* 22 March 1855) Charlotte Danks (1807? 1823? West Bromwich - 8 Jan 1889) Issue (all from Rhoda?) Page 107 The Bull’s Head The Bull’s Head came into being, under that name, in 1872. Evidence points to it being the same place known as The Fruiterers Arms before that. John Thomas, a fruiterer, started The Fruiterers Arms in 1860. This was probably a fruit shop, permitted to retail beer for its customers to drink on the premises. In 1872, an Areley Kings Butcher, named William Kenwrick, acquired the property. Did he change the name to something more fitting to a man of his trade, but leave John Thomas to carry on the pub side of the business? Both establishments appear to have been in the same area of High Street around a spot between the present day W H Grinnall and the Staffordshire Building Society. In 1907, a licence was refused on the grounds of redundancy, and compensation was paid out to the licensee. The date of closure was 5 January 1907. The property was used as an extension to Grinnall’s shop. Probable record of Licence Holders John Thomas

Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

George Kenwrick was the eldest of three brothers. The youngest one, Charles Harry Kenwrick, was my grandfather. I've always been particularly interested in the spelling / origin of the surname and happened to come across this site when surfing the web. I can be contacted at the email address or on 0118979 1002.

I am writing a History of the Preen family and George's brother William married Ann Preen. They were cousins since Cecilia Kenwrick, Ann's mother, had married Edwin Damon Preen. The Kenwrick family is of interest to my history although the Preen family is my main interest. I was not aware that George had moved to Suffolk.

George's daughter Frances was married to my Great granduncle Arthur Mayo I would be most grateful for a photo of his grave
